Fill Other's Emptiness

August 9 — 15

If you're reading this email, you're on a spiritual path — or someone who sent this to you is. But regardless of where we are on this journey, we all experience a degree of emptiness in our lives. And if we're studying Kabbalah, we want to fill that lack with the Light — the Lightforce of the Creator.

We use this wisdom and the tools it provides to fill that lack. And at some point, we decide that it's not enough to fill our own emptiness, we have to help others do the same. Perhaps share the wisdom with a friend, our family, sometimes even total strangers. But in order to maintain any sort of credibility, or to hope than anyone can rely on us to guide them, teach them or help them, we must never fool ourselves into thinking that we're full.

The moment we feel we are full, not empty anymore, that's when trouble starts.

Last week I told a story about two students who sought out a new teacher when their previous teacher passed away. One of the things I got from reading that story is that the moment we start having the fake assumption that our soul is full, we begin to veer from the path. Those two men could have looked at themselves and said, "OK, we're good. We know the rules of the universe, we can follow them on our own. We got it." But they didn't. They traveled great distances to find someone who could help them in their quest for even more Light.

And the lesson last week is that we can never forget that the reason we merit to have a teacher, to be in this path, is because we know we're not perfect. We are a work in progress, and we have a lack to fill. ALL OF US.

Helping others pour Light into their emptiness gives us more of a chance of filling our own. Kabbalah explains that our souls incarnate lifetime after lifetime. We come back to this earth seeking to fill this emptiness, to fix our souls. I've seen many who look at how far they've come on their spiritual journeys and feel accomplished. What a dangerous place that is to be. We don't even know about the incarnations of our souls.

Chances are that we've created enough negativity in this lifetime, not to be able to fix it in this lifetime. Compound that with 30-40 times we've been here before. We can never feel we've done enough to fill the emptiness we've created. We've all been here before and we didn't do the work. We've caused pain and suffering to ourselves and to others.

So much has come before us in the path of our soul, it's impossible to think that we've created enough Light to counter all that darkness.

The moment we feel we've "done it", it's just a question of time before we lose sight of the path completely. We can't continue on this path if we think we've corrected ourselves.

Quite a downer, right? But here's the key, the 'light in the attic', so to speak: Every time you recognize how far you are, you're actually in the process of getting closer to that corrected version of yourself.

This week, look around you for the abundant opportunities to share the wisdom of Kabbalah with someone who needs to see the "Light". And find someone very close to you who you are open to listen to; ask them for some feedback on how you can better walk the walk and talk the talk. And then walk and talk away. You'll be taking steps closer to your lasting fulfillment.

All the best,

Yehuda
